While it may seem like the most convenient and cost effective to take your own car, unfortunately there are a lot of risks due to theft and safety. Our recommendation is 100% park near the border and take the pedestrian bridge if you are not from Mexico.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Parking\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Parking\"><\/span>Parking&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Park your car at the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.parkopedia.com\/parking\/lot\/las_americas_premium_outlets\/92173\/san_diego\/?arriving=202405181100&amp;leaving=202405181300#google_vignette\">Las Americas Premium Outlets<\/a>. This lot is right next to the Las Americas Premium Outlet mall. The parking lot charges a fee to provide security, so you don\u2019t have to worry about your vehicle. It costs about $30, well worth it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccd4211 Camino de la Plaza, San Ysidro, San Diego, CA 92173<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Trolley\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Trolley\"><\/span>Trolley<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Take the UC San Diego Blue Line <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdmts.com\/transit-services\/trolley\">trolley<\/a> down and hop off at the last stop, San Ysidro.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccdSan Ysidro Station, San Diego, CA 92173<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"PedWest\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"PedWest\"><\/span>PedWest<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you park or trolley you\u2019ll use the new pedestrian bridge called PedWest. It\u2019s located on the west side and is easy to walk through. You can check out what the wait time looks like <a href=\"https:\/\/bwt.cbp.gov\/details\/09250407\/PED\">here<\/a>. After crossing, you\u2019ll walk for about five minutes then you\u2019ll find plenty of taxis ready to take you to your destination. There are also Ubers around if that\u2019s more your style. If you\u2019re taking a taxi, be sure to agree on a price up front to avoid price gouging.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccd499 Virginia Ave, San Diego, CA 92173<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Uber\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Uber\"><\/span>Uber<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While international Ubers are available to cross the border, it usually takes longer to cross the border in a car than just get out and walk. Do it like a true San Diegan in flip flops and sunnies.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Lion_Fish\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Lion_Fish\"><\/span>Lion Fish<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lionfishrestaurant.com.mx\/\">Lion Fish<\/a> is a really good mariscos (seafood) place with excellent tequila and micheladas. They serve cold beers in an ice bucket, arguably the best way to be served. It\u2019s basically a fine dining experience without the fine dining cost. This is why we love TJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccdErasmo Castellanos Q. 1857, Zona Urbana Rio Tijuana, 22010 Tijuana, B.C., Mexico<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Park\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Park\"><\/span>The Park<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/theparktijuana.com\/takeaway\/\">The Park<\/a> is another great spot by the owners of Nikki Rottens. That restaurant actually made our list of <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegohumor.com\/things-to-do-in-coronado\/\">Top 9 Things To Do in Coronado<\/a> so unsurprising that their power house concept across the border is equally worthy of attention. The Park is similar to <a href=\"https:\/\/libertystation.com\/\">Liberty Station<\/a>, IE a huge open dining area with lots of vendors. They have different types of tacos, seafood, and even a juice bar. While we personally wouldn\u2019t cross the border for a juice, we WOULD do it for a taco and a spicy marg. The Park is the best place to go if you can\u2019t decide what kind of taco you want as they feature some of the best restaurants in TJ one location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccddel Centenario 4210-3, Zona Urbana Rio Tijuana, 22010 Tijuana, B.C., Mexico<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tacos_El_Franc\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tacos_El_Franc\"><\/span>Tacos El Franc<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sorry, not sorry for an entire article about tacos. What did you expect? Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/tacoselfranc.com\/\">Tacos El Franc<\/a>. It\u2019s downright delicious and the green sauce needs to be used. You\u2019ll also be ahead of the crowd as they <a href=\"https:\/\/tacoselfranc.com\/2023\/12\/15\/tacos-el-franc-coming-to-san-diego\/\">announced in December 2023<\/a> that they are bringing it to San Diego.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccdBlvrd Gral Rodolfo S\u00e1nchez Taboada 9257, Zonaeste, 22010 Tijuana, B.C., Mexico<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Villa_Ortegas\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Villa_Oretgas\"><\/span>Villa Ortega\u2019s<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll want to check out <a href=\"https:\/\/ortegavillasrest.wixsite.com\/website-1\/\">Villa Ortega\u2019s<\/a> for the pier views and the excellent lobster. It\u2019s cash only but U.S. dollars are widely accepted in Tijuana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccdBarracuda 77, 22710 Puerto Nuevo, B.C., Mexico<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Valle_de_Guadalupe\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Valle_de_Guadalupe\"><\/span>Valle de Guadalupe<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>About an hour and a half from the border you\u2019ll reach Baja. There you&#8217;ll find La Ruta del Vino AKA The Wine Route. This road encompasses the collection of wineries and restaurants in the Valle de Guadalupe. Great for a group trip, the winery experience is an understated activity in Tijuana. You can also book <a href=\"https:\/\/bajawinerytours.com\/\">Baja Winery Tours<\/a> to easily get around La Ruta del Vino. These tours in particular will pick you up in San Diego so you can avoid the border crossing on your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccdBaja California, Mexico<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"TIJ_Airport\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"TIJ_Airport\"><\/span>TIJ Airport<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hop, jump, and skip the line when you cross the border for airport access. The best way in our local&#8217;s travel guide to TJ to get to the airport in Tijuana from San Diego is through the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossborderxpress.com\/en\/about\/\"> Cross Border Xpress<\/a> (CBX). This convenient terminal connects San Diego and TJ directly. IE no PedWest crossing. One-way tickets start around $20\u201325 (round-trip $35\u201345) and completely worth the hours it will save you. Inside CBX, you\u2019ll go through immigration and show your passport. That simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For affordable travel within South America, check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.volaris.com\/\">Volaris<\/a>. They often have sales, making their flights very budget-friendly. We\u2019re talking about a $170 nonstop flight from TJ to Cabo. On a San Diego flight for the same day, to the same place, it cost you $400 on the cheap end PLUS a layover. In late February 2026, the killing of CJNG cartel leader \u201cEl Mencho\u201d by Mexican federal forces triggered retaliatory violence across the state of Jalisco, including Puerto Vallarta \u2014 roadblocks, burning vehicles, and temporary shelter-in-place orders for tourists. The situation stabilized within days and flights resumed, but it\u2019s a reminder that conditions in Mexico can change fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Tijuana specifically, the U.S. State Department maintains a Level 2 \u201cExercise Increased Caution\u201d advisory for Baja California. There are no additional travel restrictions for the TJ tourist zones, but homicide rates remain high in non-tourist areas. The Feb 2026 events also briefly affected TJ with shelter-in-place orders before things returned to normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our advice:<\/strong> Thousands of San Diegans cross to TJ every weekend and have a great time. But stay smart \u2014 stick to well-known areas, don\u2019t flash valuables, use Uber or reputable taxis, avoid driving between cities after dark, and check the <a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/traveladvisories\/traveladvisories\/mexico-travel-advisory.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">U.S. State Department travel advisory<\/a> before you go.
